WAY OF LIFE

PRAYERS

Everything we are begins on our knees.

Before any mission, before any word, there is prayer. These are the devotions that shape our days and hold our fraternity together — prayed in the friaries, in the streets, and in the homes of everyone who walks with us. Pray them with us.

Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel

Defender in the daily battle

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Peace Prayer of Saint Francis

Make me an instrument of your peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me

Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O good Jesus, hear me. Within your wounds hide me. Never permit me to be separated from you. From the wicked enemy defend me. At the hour of my death call me and bid me come to you, that with your saints I may praise you for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for Vocations

For those the Lord is calling today

Lord Jesus, you who called the first disciples by name, look upon the young people of our time. Give them the courage of a humble yes, like the yes of Mary, your Mother. Raise up among us hearts that are free, joyful and available, ready to leave everything to follow you and to serve you in the poorest. Sustain those who have already answered, and grant us the grace to be, every day, a living sign of your love in the world. Amen.

“Pray without ceasing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17

Carry one of these prayers with you today. Wherever you pray them, you are praying with us.
